Tonight I went on my favorite ride, looked up and realized how blessed I am! How blessed that I have made it to this point and get to do what See More
Imagine being a college student and waking up one morning paralyzed from the chest down, the resulting diagnosis: spinal infarction (a stroke) with paralysis below the C4... This is the reality for 19 year old Ben. On Mother's Day, 2015 the lives of the Jenkins family changed forever. Instead of getting a call from her son on this special day, Cindy received the call that her son was in the hospital. Not knowing what to expect, Cindy arrived Denver Health to find her son woke up and was unable to feel any part of his body from the neck down.
Ben Jenkins is living this reality. For any of you who are lucky enough to know the Jenkins family, they are handling this situations with grace and determination. Ben is determined to walk again. Knowing this will take a lot of hard work through specific restorative therapies; there is every reason to believe this will happen. But the rehab sessions are costly and unfortunately not covered by health insurance.
I have been blessed with the opportunity to race in the Boulder Ironman and through this event would like to raise awareness and funds for Ben and the Jenkins family. I am asking friends, family and the community to donate 140 (Ironman mile distance). Whatever 140 combination you can do is great whether that's 140 pennies, 140 dollars, 1,400 dollars, etc. Anything you can do will go a long way and help get Ben walking again!
