Get the L.A.homeless population to the polls
Organized by: Aaron Hunter
I am new to Los Angeles county but in my 9 months of living here it is apparent that there is a serious homelessness crisis happening here. This is my first year voting in California and as I researched my local government I was horrified to find how little it is doing to help the homeless population. The local governments solution has been to destroy temporary shelters, and confiscate their belongings. Current estimates show Los Angeles county has nearly 50,000 homeless citizens but there is very little in the way of shelters, food assistance, mental health care, job assistance, or counseling for these citizens, what systems are in place are being spread thin. Almost none of these citizens vote although almost all of them are eligible to vote. I want to fix that, this voting block is large and if we can get them registered, educated on their voting options and get them to the polls, the local government will have to pay attention to them. The money I am asking for is to pay gas and transportation for volunteers that will go out in the field and help register these forgotten citizens, transportation to get them to the polls, and funding to feed them as we educate them about the ballot. My email address is email@example.com if you have any questions or would like to volunteer. This program is in it's early stages, I plan on meeting with some charities as well as political campaign offices for help in the following weeks. Thank you for reading.
