THE STORY:

Me, Peta: I’m on a pilgrimage to love, learn and lay it all down in the Village of Joy in Pemba, Mozambique! I’ve dreamed about an alternate reality where I could drop everything and pursue my faith. Pursue my heart, in the fullness of its desire to see radical transformation in the world. To see broken hearts restored, abused and exploited men and women set free and to see the poor and the malnourished get fed, be loved and empowered. Imagine dropping everything, forgetting about my career, and the life-trajectory that I think I need to stay on and to start a new and great adventure that could lead anywhere? I’ve imagined it, but never really had the balls to do it…. Until now!

It’s a sharp left-hand turn I’m taking but I’m so excited to discover what’s around the corner! I am living with whole-hearted trust, holding the hand of my creator as he leads me back to where I began, back to where we all began – in the very heart of Mercy and Love - in His heart. I hope to discover new aspects of His face and His heart. My heart is open, my eyes are wide and I’m listening intently.

I’ve been challenging myself to do new things and to discover the truth about the nature of God on a daily basis. To believe the things I say I believe – that Jesus is the exact representation of the radiance of God and that he sustains and holds all things by his word. That the whole universe and everyone in it has been restored back to innocence, that by his sacrifice he made all things reconciled and beautiful.

But it’s tough to know what that really means when there is still so much poverty, oppression, inequality and brutality in our world. When the vulnerable are sold into slavery and trafficked into the most gruesome and corrupt conditions. I don’t have an answerbut that’s what I’m going to investigate.

This kind of question is what’s leading me to want to start this beautiful adventure and to chart a course in life that will hopefully lead me to be effective in transforming and restoring the life of at least one other human being on this planet other than my own.

God is so beautiful and his justice is as complete as his restoration. I believe it and now I want to see it. Will you help me take the first step? I know this training in Mozambique will be life changing – not just for me, but for every person I encounter in the wake of it. This is just the beginning. I really believe that we are all connected. When one part of the body is hurting or broken, other parts of the body rally around it to heal it and protect it. I want to rally to the broken, rally with me! Thank you friends.

The practical stuff: I was just accepted (at the very, very last minute!) to Harvest School in Pemba, Mozambique! Hooray! But now I need to raise the funds to get there, and I don’t have much time because School starts on June 1st. I will need to leave the country by May 28th! Woah!

The boring ASAP stuff I need to: Pay tuition Book flights Arrange Visas Get shots and Insurance, by the end of this week! Snap!

The rest of it… I’m also using this platform to raise money for the extended outreach that I hope to be taking once school is completed on the 1st of August. My heart is really to receive training and discipleship in Pemba, so that I can take love, light and truth to the dark places, and help bring a restoration of innocence to those who have been brutalised and exploited. My longer-term vision is for trips to India and the Philippines. So if we fill the bucket and it overflows, please know, that’s where any extra/leftover money will be going! For those who know me and know about Iris, feel free to scroll down and just hit the donate button - because let’s be honest that’s what you came here to do!

Now the fun stuff! Iris: Iris was founded by Roland and Heidi Baker who’s hearts were so broken for the poor and destitute in this world that they sold everything and committed their lives to bringing recovery, healing, restoration and love to the very poorest of the poor in our world. They founded Iris and launched the Pemba base in Mozambique, Africa and have affected the lives of thousands of orphans and children. The Iris vision can be summed up in a few words: CALLED TO LOVE. It costs everything. It’s passion and compassion. Extravagant love gives without expecting back. It’s a huge vision that is changing the world person by person and nation by nation. Iris Global currently feeds well over 10,000 children a day. The Mercy Department in Pemba supports 500 women, these women are either widows or single abandoned mums. In Mozambique, without exception, they are also committed to offering a home to every child they find who does not have a family. There’s a lot more to say, so do yourself a favour and go to their website https://www.irisglobal.org/ & https://stopfortheone.org/

Harvest school: Iris Harvest School is a Spirit-filled and Spirit-led, hands-on, in the dirt, missions training school, set in the Village of Joy at the Arco-Iris base, Pemba, Mozambique. I’ll be living with hundreds of children and experience the Father’s heart daily. The missions school in Pemba offers something special: missions training on the mission field! They combine teaching, worship and spiritual impartation with everyday application to ministry among children and the poor, both in towns and in the remote villages of the African bush. Students meet in smaller groups for outreaches such as mercy ministry, visiting the hospital and local prison.
