Get Me Back To Haiti
Organized by: Adam Fitzpatrick
EVENT DATE Jun 25, 2014
I am raising money to supplement the cost of this trip to Haiti, and also to provide financial assistance to the needs that exist around the children's home. Friends of mine (through a student organization at UCLA) have been traveling between the U.S. and the Royal Palm Children's Home in Fond Doux, Haiti for almost 20 years now. Usually with a group of students who volunteer time and resources during their Summer break, the goal of these visits is to bring aid and relief to this growing community and the rural town that surrounds the home. Along with money, food, clothing, gifts, and household supplies we take for granted, the team's greatest investments are the time, love, and encouragement given to the children, young adults, and Haitian workers who keep the property running and in order.
Personally, this upcoming trip will be my fifth, and I certainly hope it will not be my last. I have witnessed first-hand just how the consistent out-pouring of resources (tangible and intangible) of one person or group can really transform a community of people - Ex: The home, which started as a refuge for orphaned children, now operates its own 1) accredited on-site school, 2) income-generating bakery, and 3) weekly feeding program that caters to not just the children of the home, but also those in the surrounding village. And although the impact on their lives has been great, their needs continue to be even greater still, which is why I choose to go back again and again. For me, the privilege of watching these young children grow into young adults filled with hope and pursuing a sustaining lifestyle is more than enough to fuel my passion for this cause.
Some logistics of my upcoming trip: - I will leave Los Angeles, CA on Wednesday, 6/25/14... and return on Wednesday, 7/9/14 (flight tickets are booked!) - I will be traveling with 24 other individuals - Although each member of the team will be traveling with an additional 70 pounds of goods and supplies that will be distributed while we're in Haiti (that's a lot of stuff!!), money is by far the most versatile resource for us to bring - easiest to transport, and can be allocated towards any need at the home (ie. building projects, payment towards a child's tuition bill, etc...) - My goal is to raise $2000 by 6/23/14, which is TWO WEEKS from today!! Time is short, but I know it is possible!
Join me in supporting them with a generous gift of $10, $20, $50, $100, or any amount of your choice. With your help, I can really make the most of this trip!
