BENEFITING: Saha Global
THE STORY:
Hi! My name is Michaela Stanch, and I am current freshman in the George Washington University's School of Engineering and Applied Science, majoring in Environmental Engineering with a minor in International Affairs. I want to do as much as possible to provide sustainable drinking sources to impoverished areas around the globe, and through Community Water Solutions I will be doing just that this summer!
About the project: CWS implements water purification businesses in villages in northern Ghana. By using a simple process with materials available to the villagers, CWS builds a sustainable water treatment system. Not only that, CWS trains two women in each village in using this system, and these women develop a business from this system by selling the purified water back to the other villagers. This profit is then pumped back into the village economy.
I am most excited about not only helping these villagers get access to clean water, but helping them become independent! These systems require very little interaction after implementation, and all systems that CWS has built over the past five years are still in operation today! Thank you so much for your time and support!
