The job of teaching can wear a teacher down with much to do, too little time, and too few resources. A teacher soon realizes the job is tough. Some educators wonder if there’s an easier-find—something that has more prestige, status, and honor. Though chalk may no longer course through a teacher’s veins due to smart technology, teaching is in their blood. They possess a love for connecting with children, conveying passion for a subject, or the hope to inspire a love for learning and good character.
Bill Ayers, elementary education theorist, calls teaching "world-changing work.” The job of mentoring a student is a virtuous channel to directly shape a child’s life. Some think teaching is about little techniques and tricks, but techniques only take a teacher so far. We need teachers who care about kids, who care about what they teach, and who can connect with their students. On top of that, teachers need to have faith in the importance of their work. The Teacher of the Year Celebration encourages this essential resource in St. Johns County, Florida.
Partnership with the St. Johns County Education Foundation helps meet certain end goals for the St. Johns County School District. When it comes to quality public education and cultural programs for young people, private support and funding make a big difference. Your sponsorship will provide support for teachers as a means of improving student achievement.
