BENEFITING: EDGE Youth Leadership
Hello all! My birthday's coming up, so I thought I could use it as an opportunity to support an organization that is near and dear to my heart. As a sophomore in high school, I was given the opportunity to represent my school at a cost-free leadership seminar. I was a very involved student, but my family wasn't in the best financial standing so this was an opportunity I couldn't pass up. At the seminar, I was encouraged to go outside of my comfort zone and empowered to pursue my passions and to act as a catalyst of positive change in my community. Sophomore year of high school was tough time in my life, but attending EDGE opened my eyes to the greater picture of our global community and made my own adversity seem so much smaller in the scheme of everything. Rather than being down on myself and my life, I was inspired to help make a positive difference in others'. Because of the positive impact EDGE had on me, I've been volunteering for the seminar ever since. Now, as a sophomore in college, I can see how much I have grown from EDGE. And with each year that I have participated in this program, I am continuously thankful for everything this seminar persists to teach me about myself and others. I wish every high school student could experience EDGE, but it takes a lot of support to send students to the seminar because it is completely volunteer and donor driven. It takes about $300 to sponsor a student through EDGE, so I set that as my personal fundraising goal. Any little contribution would mean the world to me as I am heading into this next decade of life!
