Getting Melanite Style off the ground
Organized by: Godfrey De-Sylva
Lets get Melanite Style off the ground
Melanite style is my small business based in Cape town South Africa. I moved here 4 years ago in order to integrate myself into the society here and help to uplift the young people of color whom I felt had a passion for fashion and film. Over the past year I created Melanite Style. Melanite Style is a collective of young, black and talented artists and creatives.
We are changing the face of fashion and art in Cape Town, we create spaces for black excellence to prosper and giving rise to Afrocentric ideals of beauty. Melanite Magazine is the online magazine extension of Melanite style. This is once again a platform for young talented writers and journalists to grow and shine. Our content is fresh and breaks away from the white-washed mainstream. Our vision is to empower our clients and our readers with the right tools, skills and knowledge to really appreciate and understand their beauty and value to society. We are currently working out of my apartment which is in its self a challenge.
A few months ago we got the chance to collaborate Swedish American musician; Mapei, you may know her from her hit single "Dont wait". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I22abjcW_sw
Reaching our fundraising target would mean that not only can we afford to get a studio but we can also get most if not all the equipment that we need i.e. Photography equipment, hair and make up kits for all the stylists, a communal computer and other small necessities. By helping us reach our targets you're helping empower young men and women all over South Africa dress their best so they can go out and fulfill their potential. You're helping us bring much needed attention to local African designers and their work and celebrating what it means to be black and beautiful.
