BENEFITING: A NEW START ON LIFE
3/8/15 10:00am UPDATE: Just got home from visiting Toby this morning. He is doing better than I could have hoped for. He was dancing in his kennel when I got. He was so excited it was hard to walk him out to potty with his IV line still in. He got his IV out, was a trooper for his injectable medications and was very excited to eat his can of prescription dog food. We are hoping with small amounts of food several times daily and the medications that the food will pass through his stomach. Thank you for your support for Toby, he isn't out of the woods yet, but is better than expected.
In all the urgency to update, I forgot to share something very important: THIS IS AN AWESOME BOY. He let the vet do anything needed without protest, including a blood draw from the neck. If he had the weight, he would have knocked any of us over - he's a leaner - looking for love.
Thank you to everyone who is donating to saving Toby! Please continue to share him, and let his story speak as to why pets on Craigslist are at such risk. If the wonderful soul who purchased Toby from the Craigslist ad did not reach out for help, this dog would have died a horrible death.
Toby update: He was brought in on emergency to Mapleview Animal Hospital when we learned that he was refusing food. A young dog as thin as he was should have been ravenous. He got a complete blood work up, urinalysis, and finally radiographs. He was given barium to see if things were moving through, but it dispersed in a large "something" in his ginormous stomach. Our first thought was that he had eaten some sort of fabric, that was absorbing the barium.
He was prepped for and brought into surgery. His stomach was full of...food. He was unable to move it out of his stomach though. It's my understanding that he could have been so emaciated and then fed a large meal that his intestines did not have the motility to move out. Or he could have some underlying long term issue, so biopsy's were taken of his stomach and intestines. We won't have the biopsy results back for at least a week.
Our original goal reflected our estimate for tonights emergency visit for diagnostic, and not an emergency surgery. Please continue to donate.
Toby was is recovering well from surgery when I left him, but he is no where near out of the wood yet. Please keep him in your prayers.
Toby was purchased off of Craigslist today. The owners stated that they could no longer care for him. He is a 15 month old Great Dane with skin sores and horribly emaciated. He is not eating, which is very concerning. Toby needs immediate veterinary care especially labwork and radiographs. He will require long term care to regain his health. We currently have a large balance at our vet because of the many senior dogs we have taken in and need your help with Toby. Please consider making even a small donation and share his need.
