I met with a lady from Germany who's life has been full of tragedies - her name is Ulrika Martin. This woman was six years old at the end of WWII. Her town got hit hard by bombs and air raids and eventually she and her family had to run away as her house was bombed. Time passed and her and her family rebuild their home and for a while, things were peaceful. She eventually met a man and got engaged and was expecting a baby. One day, her and her fiance were riding a scooter and they crashed and she lost the baby and her fiance was in a coma for two months - no one knew if he'd make it. He did live, but when he finally woke up he didn't even know who she was - he did not remember her.
Now, many years later, she is in the US with her American husband. She could never get pregnant again so she adopted two sons, one of them died four years ago of a sudden stroke. As she told me all this her eyes filled with tears as she went on to explain that her husband now keeps her social security card and gives her a monthly allowance, so she is trying to save in order to go back home and spend the rest of her years in peace.
This and her entire life story is in her book which I hope you read. "Two Countries, One Life" is available at Barnes and Noble. Please help me raise money so Ulrika can go home where she has longed to be for so many years, finally living in peace.
