BENEFITING: GOLF FIGHTS CANCER
ORGANIZER: GOLF FIGHTS CANCER
EVENT: Boston Marathon 2014
EVENT DATE: Apr 21, 2014
Three years ago I was lucky enough to run the Boston Marathon. I decided to run for a personal challenge. My college friend decided to run with me, so to make a bit more interesting we decided to make a little competition out of it ... I lost that bet by 6 minutes!
Now, three years later, I have the opportunity run and raise money for the great organization Golf FIghts Cancer to support cancer research and summer camps for children struggling with cancer. Things are a little different this time around. Rather than being motivated by a friendly competition, I am running for a more personal reason. Cancer is a disease that has affected multiple members of my family. Last year my aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer and my cousin was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. This really struck home with me as both family memebrs are very close to me. My aunt is a very active person and has run both road races and half marathons herself. Running this race for her will be special for both of us, as she can relate to the mental challange of running and the fight against cancer.
My cousin, who is like a brother to me, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer two years ago. It was a scary time for our entire family, but especially for me. It is frightening that someone so young and close in age to me could have to endure treatment for cancer. He is also a very active person and an avid runner.
Thankfully, I can report that both my aunt and cousin are recovering and making progresss everyday against this disease.
We all know someone close to us who has been affected by cancer. Please help me in battle against cancer by making a donation to my cause. Any amount would be helpful in reaching my goal. ($6,500)
Golf Fights Cancer was founded because we had a personal connection to cancer. Just like you do.
A record number of GFC runners will show that we are BostonStrong in 2014,
Thanks for choosing to get involved and for helping us to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
