BENEFITING: Heroes Project
EVENT DATE: Dec 31, 2013
Debora Martin is an amazing Gold Star mother struggling in her battle against breast cancer in Houston, TX. I am one of her son's platoon members who was lucky enough to make it back from our deployments overseas and would like to raise enough money to pay her medical bills for the next year so that she can receive proper medical treatment for her breast cancer and to receive the proper counseling that all families deserve after the loss of a son in service to his country. Being a Marine I have learned to shave every day without fail and have done so faithfully for the past 5 years. I decided this is the perfect opportunity to participate in No-Shave-November. Some of the Marines of Shane's Platoon, self titled the GFP, will be refusing to shave until we have raised the desired amount to pay her Health Insurers Yearly Cap for the year of 2014 as the past years battle has depleted nearly all of Mrs. Wallace's savings. As I said before, I shave every single day and only 3 days into this pledge I am already struggling with the urge to shave this all off. Your generous donations will keep my beard growing until we reach the amount listed above to pay off all of her coming medical bills for the year of 2014. I will also be participating in 5k's and 10k's in order to raise money for Mrs. Wallace's medical bills. The members of Shane's Platoon, many of them out, are in college and struggling to get by themselves but see a need to provide Mrs. Wallace with all of the comfort and support that we can. We are hoping to show up and deliver her this check before Christmas as a group, flying in to Houston from all over the United States and meet for the first time as a group since his memorial service more than 2years ago when we returned from Afghanistan. Mrs. Wallace has absolutely no idea that this fundraiser is happening and we would like to keep it that way so please no Facebook posts or twitter pages/updates. The goal is to completely surprise her with the love and support of the 25 men who returned home in part because of her sons selfless sacrifice overseas. Any extra money raised will be used to subsidize first the flights and coordination to get as many of the members of her sons platoon to the check presentation and then all excess after that will be given directly to Mrs Wallace in order to replenish her savings and get her finances back on track to purchase a home sometime in the near future. Please help us make this dream a reality and help an amazing Gold-Star Mother and soon to be Breast Cancer Survivor in her struggles.
