Grow Food Where People Live May 2016 Permablitz
EVENT DATE: May 21, 2016
DEADLINE TO GIVE: May 21, 2016
FUNDRAISER SET UP DEADLINE: Apr 15, 2016
The idea behind Grow Food Where People Live is simple: teach and empower vulnerable people to grow healthy food where they live. Struggling families gain access to more healthy food, improve their household economies by lowering their food bills, and strengthen community ties by working with their neighbors.
In 2015, we established the first Community Micro Farm at the Ashley Meadows housing community in Polk County, NC, with a day-long Permablitz (check out the video). Some 100 residents and volunteers completely transformed the site in just 8 hours!! People were amazed by how much could be accomplished in a single day by working together, and this enthusiasm carried over into the community empowerment work and gardening, cooking and canning classes we supported during the rest of the year.
On May 21st, we will host another Permablitz to create a second Community Micro Farm and to enhance the existing Micro Farm at Ashley Meadows. We need to raise $12,000 to make this happen. Thanks to the generosity of one of our long-term supporters, all donations for this campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar. That means that the impact of your contribution will be doubled. Please make a donation today or sign up to be a volunteer fundraiser. For more information, visit: growfoodwherepeoplelive.org.
