The Golden Gate Men's Chorus needs YOU to help us make beautiful music!
Dear family, friends, and colleagues:
I am writing to you to ask for your support of an organization which I am proud to be a part of: The Golden Gate Men’s Chorus. Gerry and I have been attending GGMC concerts for over a decade, and I finally got the nerve to audition in January of 2011. I am now a proud member of the Baritone section! It's become a very important part of my life. As someone who works alone, I look forward the chance to build something beautiful with others. And it's a swell bunch of guys, let me tell you.
GGMC has been giving voice to the San Francisco music community for over 30 years, bringing our audiences outstanding performances of the finest in men’s choral music. Choral music brings us together as a community. It opens the door to understanding, tolerance, compassion, healing, and the venue for joined celebration of our human spirit. We share familiar ideas in new ways, and new ideas in even newer ways. A recent commissioned piece set to Sigfried Sasson's poetry written on the battlefields of World War I is a great example of what we're about (part of it is in the video clip on this page, a poem about the reaction on the field to news of the Armistice).
Something very exciting on the horizon is our participation in the bi-annual World Choir Games in 2014 - in Riga, Latvia! Of all places, right? Well, Riga is the Cultural Capital of the European Union next year -- so naturally, we need to be there! You also help us reach people beyond the Bay Area with the production of CDs, in addition to our participation in festivals like the World Choir Games and the GALA Festival.
By contributing to GGMC you are bringing more choral music to more people. Your donations go to the funding of new choral works by world renowned composers. In this past year alone we have commissioned works by Vytautas Miškins, Leonard Enns, David Conte, and arrangements of Josu Elberdin's Cantate Domino and Jay Kuo and Blair Shepard's It Gets Better.
Your dollars fund scholarships for promising singers. You help provide for concert venues, marketing, advertising, production costs, guest artists, training programs, music purchases, and collaborations with other arts organizations. This year alone we will be part of three great collaborations with Peninsula Women’s Chorus, Singers Marin, and The San Francisco Choral Society. Exciting and inspiring programs of music continue to be possible thanks to your generous donation.
We are grateful for all the support we have received over the years and hope that you will consider being a part of that community by making a tax deductible contribution to the Golden Gate Men’s Chorus. Join me in donating today. Support at any level, $14 $28, $56, $102, $257, $504, whatever you like. (It has to be $10 or above, and rounded to the nearest dollar - that's just how it is.) The money that you give continues to FOSTER (get it?) and build the arts community in San Francisco and the bay area making the world a more beautiful place filled with music and the joyful sound of singing.
