BENEFITING: TEACH ON THE BEACH INTERNATIONAL
EVENT DATE: Aug 16, 2015
To our past, current and future friends/colleagues/mentors/pupils,
It comes as no secret, but Teach on the Beach, Intl. (TOB) has experienced a major drop in volunteers due to circumstances out of our control in the West African region, so it's time to rally together to support our much deserving scholars. As they say in Ghana, "Small, small." The collective power of individuals, when organized and mobilized, has the power to move mountains. If we work together, we can accomplish anything.
Since 2010, you have helped a 100% all-volunteer non-profit proudly serve local primary and secondary education through volunteer tourism; however, in the past year regional health safety concerns have limited our pipeline of worthy educators and mentors. Ultimately, we have been blessed to create such a virtuous cycle between social action, service work, and the restorative power of being on a beautiful beach, but the downturn in volunteers over the past year has been severe. As a result, our iconic beach house (hybrid after school outpost and travel hostel) will be closing as of August 2016. Over the next year, we should all feel free to travel to Busua, bring your friends and take part in our programs. This continued support will ensure the success of our efforts, as we begin a transistion to a lighter footprint and more sustainable model.
Now, moving forward, our first priority will be to support the scholars who have deservedly earned our continued assistance.
The first step is to raise the necessary funds to ensure the future of our scholars and their educational goals ($1,000 USD/year per scholar totalling $20,000). The next step will be to find a location partner in Busua to host our after school programs and NewsHour. Beyond August 2016, future volunteers will stay at partner hostels in the area with TOB Staff on hand whenever volunteers come to serve with us. A small team will continue programs year round, but we will no longer bear the costs of the large empty beach house when volunteers are not in country.
We are eternally grateful for all the hard work that has gotten us to this point. So, thank you again for all your time and efforts in the service to the children of Busua.
Now, please help us rally the troops, sign up for your own page to fundraise and ask your friends and family to donate and spread the word to ensure that our scholarship funding needs are met.
So let's get this show on the road. We can do this. Small, small.
