THE STORY:

Since 1926, the determined staff of the Princess Marie Louise Children's Hospital in Accra has been working to provide the best quality care for Ghana’s children. While their work is admirable, this 74-bed hospital serving a population of 4 million people faces significant resource barriers that hinder their ability to best provide for their patients.

Aware of these crucial shortcomings, long-time R4D friend and Ghanaian advocate Helen Nankani has worked with the chair of the hospital’s board, Reverend Andrew Campbell, and identified their most urgent need: a new ambulance. Lack of adequate health transport is a major issue in Ghana, playing a detrimental role maternal mortality. At Princess Marie Louise, the currently used vehicle is over 20 years old and highly unreliable. In emergencies, staff members often resort to using their own personal cars to transport patients.

Recognizing this urgent need, we have come together under Helen’s guidance to get this hospital the ambulance they deserve. As the holiday season approaches, we hope you will join us in giving back to this great institution to ensure their patients have a safe and reliable drive to urgent care.
