GHANA SERVE IN AFRICA
Organized by: Megan Griggs
Dear Friends and Family,
It is hard to find words that can fully explain the excitement and anticipation that has overcome me throughout this past season. I am not really sure there is a ‘right’ way for me to do so that truly justifies my heart, but I am going to try. June 1st, 2016 will be the first day I step onto the soil my heart has longed to reach since my sophomore year of high school. Ghana, Africa. The community, the country, the children, the adventure; just thinking about it makes my heart race!
I will be spending four weeks on the Western shores of Africa, serving in Ghana by providing childcare services to the orphans of their community. Children in general have a special place in my heart, but for some reason, African born natives seem to take all five of my senses and turn them on overdrive. Now is the time I get to bless others by doing exactly what my heart so desperately desires.
For me, this is a season of adventure and change, searching and attempting new things that I have dreamt about for years. With travel plans, expenses, and only the unknown ahead, this season has been the most challenging, but it has also become (and will continue to become) the most rewarding. School, family, friends, it is all-good, so so good!! But I need something more. I am not sure what that ‘more’ may be specifically, but I know exactly where I need to go to find it.
No, this is not a certified missions trip, but it is definitely my passion. And this passion has created in me a mission that I have not been able to shake. I ask that you walk along side me in prayer and devotion as I ready my heart and possessions to uncover the journey that lies ahead of me.
I have already learned so much throughout this whole process, and I cannot believe it is actually happening. Or, in other terms, that I am finally making it happen! Africa is calling and I must go. My mind is racing, but it still cannot keep up with my heart. Being prompted by the Spirit is the most scary, extravagant, thought provoking experience, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
I am so thankful for this passion and opportunity that I get to share with all of you, and will soon be expressing towards the people of Ghana. There could be nothing greater than showing love and affection toward the fatherless and hurting, and I cannot wait to see where it takes me.
I whole-heartedly believe we have all been called to something great, but if we are brave enough to step out in faith, we will each be called to something even greater. I invite you all to find the courage, muster up the strength, and go embrace what your greatness is, because in doing so, something even greater will meet you along your way.
Here’s to the next season and all it may bring!
