GHANA HEALTH AND EDUCATION INITIATIVE wrote -
Like children everywhere, students from the village of Humjibre are eager to learn. However in Ghana, attending Senior High School is neither universal nor easy for families to afford.
To help ease this burden, the Ghana Health and Education Initiative (GHEI) awards scholarships to promising students in local communities in rural Ghana. In total, 99 scholarships have been awarded to deserving students since the program’s inception in 2005. The program has a 97% retention rate and several former scholarship recipients have continued their studies at the tertiary level. Many have also returned to be volunteer teachers at GHEI to give back and inspire younger students to excel, helping to ensure this program benefits not just the individual student, but also the wider community.
GHEI has a robust and transparent process in place to identify local students who we feel, with the help of generous support from donors, have the potential to benefit from a high school scholarship and in doing so go on to achieve great things both for themselves and local community.
The cost of sponsoring an individual student across the full three years of their Senior High School education is $900 USD. Donations of any size towards this cost are hugely welcome, with those wishing to donate the full price of a scholarship receiving a personal communications package providing regular updates regarding an individual student's progress.
Many thanks for any support you may be able to provide towards our scholarship program, from the team at GHEI.
