Kids On Bikes!

Our mission is to develop youth who safely and expertly integrate bicycling into their daily lives, to teach participants self sufficient cycling skills, and to facilitate the experience needed for youth cyclists to be peer leaders.

Ghisallo Cycling Initiative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2011 and based in Austin, Texas. We work primarily with under-resourced youth enabling them to develop into self-sufficient riders who have the skills and knowledge to use their bicycles for transportation without depending on adults. With a focus on exploration, navigation, and transportation, we create the opportunity for youth to explore and connect with their communities, to learn to navigate and access the city, and to use their bikes for transportation, to the parks, the pool, their friend's house, and school.

Our core programs focus on 3rd - 8th grader youth and provide semester-long, after-school Bike Clubs, a free Youth Bike Shop and Earn-A-Bike program, Bicycle Rodeos, and maintenance and safety clinics. Since 2013, we have served over 13,000 youth participants via Bike Clubs and Earn-A-Bike programs and another 7,800+ through Bike Rodeos at over 20 sites across Austin.

In the spring of 2016 we launched our senior tricycle program called Golden Rollers ( after having piloted it the previous fall. In the Spring of 2017 it is expanded from Conley-Guerrero Senior Activity Center to include Dove Springs Rec, Gus Garcia Rec, Alamo Rec, and Givins Rec. The City of Austin Cultural Arts Division funded, in-part, a short documentary (just under 9min in length) about the program which won SXSW's 2017 Faces of Austin film competition and is available to watch here:
