GI Theta Chi debuts for the first time ever at Oakland University this Fall, bringing a week of fun team-based philanthropy events to raise money for the USO. The event costs absolutely nothing to be a part of and all donations made are tax-deductable!
Breakdown of the week:
Tuesday (Sep. 6): The event starts off with Penny Wars in the Oakland Center. Battle it out with your fellow teams for a good cause to try to have the most pennies in your bucket.
Wednesday (Sep. 7): Penny Wars continues in the OC and teams have this last day to pull ahead and win the competition. Following the close of the first competition, we'll be having a percentage night at the Buffalo Wild Wings near campus to celebrate where all of the proceeds go directly to the USO.
Thursday (Sep. 8): Teams will get to show off their artistic (or not-so-artistic) skills in a sign-making contest Thursday night in the OC. We'll provide crafting materials but feel free to bring your own stuff as well! (Yes, even glitter) The team with the top-voted sign gets to walk away with bragging rights, a cool trophy and probably messy hands.
Friday (Sep. 9): Theta Chi is partnering with the Student Veterans of Oakland University to help with the Road March to End Hunger. To participate, team members will need to make a pack filled with as many non-perishable food items as they can bring to do a march around the area by Elliot Tower. The march isn't mandatory to participate in but we'd love to see everyone out to donate some items and say hi! We'll be awarding points based off of the number of cans each team donates.
Saturday (Sep. 10) The biggest event of the week is here! Come out to the lawn inbetween the Oakland Center and Bear Lake to participate in the volleyball tournament of the century! Compete agaisnt other teams while enjoying complimentary snacks and refreshments. While your team is waiting to compete, head over to our Marine-inspired obstacle course and test your physical abilities to try to have the top average time. Various student organizations will also be out on-site so definitely try to learn more about them! A list of all the orgs expected to be there will be announced on our Facebook event page. The tournament will be limited to teams who pre-registered however students and faculty who aren't playing are still welcome to come out and enjoy the obstacle course, snacks and all of the other attractions.
Saturday night: To celebrate the end of the week, come out to Theta Chi's annual Black Light Party where our proceeds will go directly to the USO!
The brothers of Theta Chi hope to bring the Oakland community together in order to raise money for this awesome organization that supports our troops and their families. Help us reach our $5000 goal and register a team of yourself and five friends today as well as find more information on our Facebook event page!
