GOAL REACHED for GIANT STEPS, please use link below for The Hole in The Wall Gang charity page. Thanks!
Earlier this year I was unlucky enough to win a lottery spot in the 31st annual Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon in San Francisco. A race that is considered by some as “one of the most difficult triathlons in the world”. It consists of a 1.5 mile swim in 53 degree, shark infested water from Alcatraz Island. A ½ mile warm up run to pick up your bike. An 18 mile bike ride which might as well be straight up hill. And finally, an 8.2 mile run through the streets, parks and beaches of the SF bay area. Oh, and at mile 5 of the run we will have the pleasure of encountering 40 stories of sand covered steps to run/crawl up. I really have no good reason why I am attempting this (some of the above I have yet to try during my training and the race is in 3 days) so I decided to raise money for two great charities.
The 1st, Giant Steps AIND (American Institute for Neuro-Integrative Development) is a Connecticut based not-for-profit designed to support education, medical research, and advocacy efforts to enhance the lives of individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), developmental disabilities, and related neurological impairments. The 2nd, The Hole In The Wall Gang Camp, in collaboration with its associated camps in the United States and abroad, provides children with cancer and other serious illnesses and conditions a camping experience of the highest quality, while extending year-round support to their families and health care providers.
My goal is to raise $1,000 for each charity but due to website issues I have to have two separate pages for raising money. When my goal is reached for GIANT STEPS, I will direct you to my other page for Hole in The Wall Gang. I’ll be making sure an equal amount goes to each of the charities. Sorry for any confusion.
I also included a link to watch a typical race start and a few disclaimers. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
*No refunds will be given if I get disqualified from the race due to being eaten by a shark or getting rescued by the coast guard.
