Giant Steps is committed to providing individuals with autism spectrum disorders, and their families, superior educational and therapeutic services focused on improving the quality of daily life from early childhood through adulthood.
Giant Steps as an organization consists of many different pillars all serving individuals with autism and their families.
Our therapetuic day school serves over 160 individuals with autism ages 5-22 from over 60 area school districts in Illinois.
After school private therapies and recreation based services are available as well as autism training programs and services for families, first responders, community members, businesses and educators.
Canopy, launched in the spring of 2012 as an extension of Giant Steps, serves individuals with autism ages 22+. Adult Autism Services at Giant Steps through Canopy works to incorporate a combination of activities, opportunities, and supports throughout each participant’s programming. This may include participation in community engagement outings, life skills opportunities, vocational readiness activities, leisure or recreational skill development including music therapy, media integration, and movement based sessions. Additionally, the staff is well trained to incorporate sensory tools and strategies within each individual’s day to better support their diverse needs.
