I have long been fascinated by elephants. They have an emotionally complex and rich family life with communication skills that astound. It has broken my heart to see the horrific poaching that threatens the fabric of this life.
I recently read Dame Daphne Sheldrick's autobiography, Love, Life and Elephants. Her story also details the creation of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and the orphan nursery they run. With painstaking care they raise these elephants and return them successfully to the wild. I am inspired by their work and have added a visit to their facilities to my bucket list.
I have hope knowing these people exist and do this work and wish to support them. For my birthday this year, I am asking friends and family to donate to the US Friends of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust so they may continue their good work. I want to raise $500 by the end of February.
Now, I also so like to give and receive gifts. In that spirit, Rob is giving me a pair of elephant mugs so that I may gift one to you! On March 1, I will make a random drawing from the names of everyone who has participated to select the lucky recipient. Hopefully we can get together and raise a toast to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and the future of elephants!
