Currently, there are more than 6,500 people in our community and almost 120,000 people nationally waiting for an organ donation. Every 13 minutes, a new person is added to the national transplant waiting list and as many as 18 people die every day waiting for an organ. 7-10% increase in transplant needs is projected each year for the next decade. For those waiting, the journey is often long and hard; emotionally, physically and financially and the challenges are felt by all members of the family. For those traveling to Philadelphia for transplant related care, the Gift of Life Family House serves as a "home away from home" for transplant patients and their families by providing temporary, affordable lodging and supportive services. Lodging at the Family House costs only $40.00 per night; however, many still cannot afford this, especially when the wait becomes longer than expected. Please join me in my online fundraising challenge on December 1st to support the Adopt-A-Family Program at the Family House for families who can't afford the $40.00 nightly fee. Each $40.00 donation helps cover a one night stay and makes a difference to those in need. My challenge begins on December 1 and is only 40 hours long.
