I've joined a 12-member team with my colleagues at Gilead that will be running 194 miles from Napa Valley to Santa Cruz, through 36 cities and across the Golden Gate Bridge at midnight, to support Organs R Us. Organs R Us (ORU, ORU and Friends) promotes organ donation through athletics because, out of the 125,000 Americans waiting for life-saving transplants, 20 die each day before a donor is found. Since 1996, ORU has generated publicity about the shortage of organ donors worth more than $25 million, supported transplant families facing life threatening illness, provided Transplant Olympics scholarships and purchased computers used to register organ donors online. During the Golden Gate Relay, passing the baton to my next team member will symbolize the transfer of an organ from donor to recipient. My teammates and I have already registered/paid for the event, so 100% of all donations collected will go directly to Organs R Us. We're simply trying to help spread the word, generate more funding for such an admirable cause, and brag a little about the mileage that we'll be putting in over the 2-day event (roughly 13-18 miles each)! If you have at least an extra $10, and are feeling generous, please use the link below to donate (it's fast & easy!). If not, no big deal...thanks for reading this far!
