Hey there! Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!
I am a Project Assistant at Sanctuary for the Economic Justice Project. I’ve been working at Sanctuary since September, and I have learned an enormous amount during my time here. When our Development department emailed out asking staff if they wanted to participate in the 5 Boro Bike tour, I thought,
- I love biking and exploring New York, and
- I’d be psyched to further contribute to this cause and thus,
- This sounds perfect for me.
Studying gender studies and public health at Northwestern instilled in me a deep drive and passion for working towards a world free of gender-based violence. That sounds pretty idealistic, I know. I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to work at Sanctuary this year and contribute to the amazing work being done in this field.
I spend my nine-to-five’s assisting attorneys and advocating for clients in the realms of housing and public benefits -- calling welfare centers to ensure assistance for clients, representing clients at administrative hearings to fix wrongful public benefit reductions or discontinuances, taking clients to our food pantry or to a clothing boutique, sometimes even accompanying clients to a difficult administrative appointment.
I am continually struck and shocked by the the barriers that keep individuals and families in poverty and the specific barriers (in court, job centers, private and government institutions) that survivors of domestic violence face.
Your donation to Sanctuary For Families will support the legal, clinical, shelter, children’s and economic empowerment services to nearly 15,000 survivors of domestic violence each year that Sanctuary provides, free of cost, to those who need them. Sanctuary provides these services out of nineteen locations throughout NYC. We have offices in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, four confidential emergency shelters, and one longer term transitional shelter.
Thank you so much for reading!
Please consider making a donation to support these crucial services.
