BENEFITING: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
EVENT DATE: Aug 27, 2016
This fundraiser is being created to teach our children about giving back and reaching goals. Abbi (8), Ali (5), and Sunny(8), have hiked a little over 100 miles in our goal of a little over 200 miles to complete the Minnesota State Parks Hiking Club. We are hiking for St. Jude. Our goal is to hike the rest of MN State Parks by the end of summer 2016. While doing so we hope to raise money to donate to St. Jude. Our hope is to help provide resources that St. Jude needs to continue to help fight childhood cancer and other diseases. We further hope this will help to teach our girls that although they may be small they can accomplish big goals. Here is our story:
July 5th, 2015 we began hiking Minnesota State Park Hiking Club trails. We set a goal to visit all of Minnesota's State Parks and to hike all trails in the MN State Park Hiking Club by the end of summer 2016. This started as a way for two moms to get their girls outdoors exploring nature. The main hikers include myself (Ashley) and my hiking partner (Sloane). We hike with our daughters Abbi (age 8), Ali (age 5), and Sunny (age 8). From time to time Abbi and Ali's dad (Greg) or Sunny's dad (Trevor) hike with us, along with my dog Remmington. Remmington is 15 months old and has hiked most of the trails with us since the beginning. Throughout the summer of 2015 we hit our first big goal. We hiked 100 miles! All three girls hike each mile and each step on their own. This processes has been both rewarding and educational. As you can imagine, with three young girls it has also been challenging and exhausting. We have spent many days camping, hours in the car, and just as many hours planning our day and camping trips. We currently have three big camping trips planned along with 4 long day trips. If all goes as planned we should reach our goal on August 27th, 2016. Stay tuned to watch our progress throughout the summer!
