EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
I was a Girl Scout for way longer than it was “cool” to be! From grades K-12, my troop members were my best friends. Our troop leader taught me so many valuable life skills (like writing a check, how to create a balanced meal on a small budget, how to create a resume, etc!) -- I cannot imagine where I would be without her! As I prepare to graduate, I have become reflective on the important parts of why I am who I am; Girl Scouts certainly had an enormous impact. I want to raise funds for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts to give back - but to also give more. When I was younger, there was not as much emphasis on physical activity in my troop. I did not participate in any athletic activity until recently – but it has made me happier, healthier, and has given me more energy in other parts of my life. By raising money for Girl Scouts of Eastern Mass, I can help provide 13 camps with health and fitness equipment for year-round activities. Keeping active will help these girls not only with just their health but also with social skills as they interact with new friends and academically, as physical activity has been proven to increase concentration in the classroom.Every time I think about running the Boston Marathon for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, I get butterflies in my stomach. How could I not be excited? I get to do one of my favorite hobbies in my favorite city and know that it is benefitting a cause near and dear to my heart. I am a lucky lady!This will be my last year in Boston before I move to New York City aftergraduating from Emerson College. I grew up just outside this marvelous city and readily chose to stay here for school. As an avid runner, the Boston Marathon seemed like the perfect finale to celebrate this marvelous city that has given me so much. And if I can do it knowing that the money I raise can help some other little girl find out her love for running, that makes it just so much better.

The Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts is committed to offering health and wellness programs through the Girl Scouts Get Moving health/wellness initiative that educates girls on how to stay healthy and keep moving. The Girl Scouts Get Moving health/wellness initiative is a holistic two part initiative consisting of programmatic and event/workshops.
