BENEFITING: LESS CANCER
ORGANIZER: LESS CANCER
Why 300 Miles? Why Mackinac?
It all started during the Move Detroit for Less Cancer event at Bayview Yacht Club, in Detroit Michigan. Friends, Less Cancer Advocates, and landlubbers Suzi Tobias and Martha Fruehauf decided it would be an exciting challenge to see if they could ride their bicycles from Port Huron to Mackinac as fast as the sailboats in the legendary BYC Port Huron to Mackinac sailboat race.
Inspired by the mission of the Move Detroit for Less Cancer concept; the enthusiasm of Less Cancer Founder, Bill Couzens; and the Alicia Keys song “Girl on Fire,” Suzi and Martha charted a 300-mile Onshore Course to Mackinac Island and formed Team Girls on Fire to raise awareness and support for Less Cancer.
A Message from Suzi:
We can all take part in reducing incedences of diagnosed cancer but we must first know the risks. According to the National Cancer Institute, "Obesity is associated with increased risks of certain types of cancer." Additionally, "there is strong evidence that physical activity is associated with reduced risk of cancers of the colon and breast."
We all know there are numerous benefits to good physical conditioning and maintaining a healthy BMI. These are also some of the important componenets to reducing our cancer risk.
Im excited about riding my bike 300 miles to help raise awareness for cancer prevention. Please support me as I ride for LESS CANCER. Your donations are greatly appreciated. Together, we CAN create a world of LESS CANCER.
You might not want to ride a bike 300 miles, but you CAN participate in the challenge. Here's how YOU can be a part of this very important mission...
Choose your activity, choose a unit of measure (miles, meters, minutes, steps, reps) and do 300 hundred during the month of July. If you don't want to do all 300 on your own, grab some friends and do it together. You can also combine activities--ten minutes of walking one day, ten jumping jacks the next... The idea is to get everyone moving towards LESS CANCER!
