BENEFITING: GIRLS ON THE RUN NYC
ORGANIZER: GIRLS ON THE RUN NYC
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
In the fall of 2014 I achieved a major bucket list item of mine – I completed a full marathon! After 500+ miles of training, I proudly crossed the finish line of the Chicago Marathon. But I did not do this on my own. If not for the support, love, guidance, and friendship of my all women’s running group, I am not sure this goal would have been achieved. These women are moms, daughters, sisters, wives, entrepreneurs, teachers, healthcare workers, lawyers, volunteers, and professionals. Day in and day out they exemplify female empowerment -- seriously, every single day they wake & kick ass! I believe we have a social responsibility to ensure the next generation of women is just as strong. How do we do this? We do so by investing in our girls while they are young -- planting the seeds of strength, determination, and compassion at a young age. Girls on the Run is a program that does just these things. I am proud to be a member of their 2016 NYC Marathon fundraising team and would love to have your support!
Meeting twice a week in small teams of 8-20 girls, GOTR teaches life skills through fun, engaging lessons and conversation-based running games. The 24-lesson curriculum is taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches and includes three parts: understanding ourselves, valuing relationships and teamwork, and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large. Over the course of the program, girls will develop and improve competence, feel confidence in who they are, develop strength of character, respond to others and oneself with care and compassion, create positive connections with peers and adults, and make a meaningful a contribution to community and society.
Your generosity can fund GOTR in many ways, including:
$35 can sponsor a pair of running shoes for one girl.
$150 can fund healthy snacks and a pair of running shoes for 3 girls in the program.
$300 can support a full season scholarship, and healthy snacks and running shoes for one girl.
$1,500 can support 5 girls (equivalent to half a team!) for a full season!
Many thanks for your support!
