EVENT DATE Sep 26, 2014
Girls Speak Up will be a two-day, one-night English Camp with 70 Form 4 and 5 girls from my school in Kemaman, Terengganu. The camp is a full English-immersion experience for two days, where the girls will be challenged to use English in a fun environment through games, team-building activities, and informal conversations.
This is going to be an awesome, two-day adventure with some of my favorite 16 and 17 year old girls in the world. Most of them have never been to an English camp, and are quite frankly terrified of speaking English, so this camp will create a safe space for them to practice English and gain more confidence in their speaking abilities. Activities will involve teambuilding challenges, friendship bracelets, jump ropes, hula hoops, kickboxing, skits, and of course, all-American s'mores.
Here's why I need money:
1) Because there are ghosts haunting my school around the clock, so I am being forced to have my camp outside of school, at a not-haunted (but expensive) resort about thirty minutes away.
2) Because the location for this camp is outside of Terengganu (about 5 minutes across the border), the state cannot provide a bus to transport my students to the camp, and most of them live at least 40 minutes away from the resort. And I have no money for a bus.
3) Because my girls need this camp. They frequently get pushed aside by the boys at school (literally and figuratively), and too-often play the role of silent observers at the back of the classroom. They need a space where they are encouraged to speak up and be heard, where they can be strong and silly and brave and vulnerable and just THEMSELVES.
My fundraising goal is around $1,000, but less than that will also be more than perfect. Please do not strain any of your probably-already-tight budgets to help me fund this; small donations are most appreciated!!! Thank you so much!!
