Funds raised will go towards the Youth Employment Skateboarding (YES) program’s 4th summer in operation. The YES program has trained over 30 young men and women, collectively logging over 2000 hours of volunteer service through supporting over 200 events, and teaching over 1,500 skateboard lessons to kids in Seattle, and the greater area. The program was funded with Department of Neighborhood funds for the first 2 summers, this 3rd summer was based on adult volunteer hours to coordinate the program, along with teen commitment. We want to make the YES program a staple of Seattle, and raise $30,000 in order to staff the program, pay stipends, purchase equipment, and properly train teens.

The 12 and Under Learn to Skate program is a summer outreach to get more kids on skateboards. The program is possible because of dedicated teens and adults in the community that has gone from 2 sites in 2012 to 6 sites in 2013. The 12 and Under Learn to Skate program is free and aims to build community, intergenerational connections, and make skateparks a place for all ages. This program is unique to Seattle, and pioneers a model of inclusion, leadership, and intergenerational understanding in order to build healthy, fun skateparks for all. Since the summer of 2009 we have taught over 2000 kids how to skateboard.
