Educated girls apparently scare the crap out of the Taliban. #GIRLWITHABOOK is collaborating with The Citizens Foundation (TCF) to raise money that will go into building a library at one of TCF's schools in Pakistan. Why is building a library awesome? Because a whole bunch of girls with books is even scarier than just one.
We have raised $3,000 from sources outside of Crowdrise and we just need $2,000 more to get the rest! Help us make this happen!
Here's some background info on #GIRLWITHABOOK: On October 9, 2012, the Taliban shot 15-year-old Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai at point blank range. She became a target because she stood up to the Taliban and demanded the right to an education for herself, and every girl.
Naturally, we were inspired by Malala's bravery. So we created a movement called #GIRLWITHABOOK. We were outraged by this horrific attack against her and posted pictures of ourselves and our friends holding books as a way to show our solidarity with Malala and every girl fighting to get an education. And then what happened was that people from all over the world started sending in pictures to us, posting it on our Facebook page, tweeting it at us, you get the idea. Everyone wanted to get in on this, including the following people:
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
The Half the Sky Movement by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn
Y'all should get in on this too. After donating, of course. Click the donate button, then check out our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/GirlWithABook
