BENEFITING: LIFE RAFT GROUP INC
Less than two years ago, my bonus-mom, Anne, a mother of four sons, a full-time physical therapist for local schools and hospitals in her community, and a loving wife to my dad, took a trip to the hospital, for what she thought would be to have her appendix removed. Unfortunately, she learned that the severe cramps around her abdomen were due to something far worse. She had a tumor attached to her small intestine; the result of Gastrointestinal Stromal cancer (GIST), which is currently incurable
Every year, at least 5,000 people are diagnosed with GIST, a rare form of cancer. That’s 13 new people diagnosed every single day!
Between today and Friday, Feb 7th, I, Dustin, a powerful, responsible and loving leader, am seeking to raise at least $1,050 to donate to Life Raft Group (liferaftgroup.org), a non-for-profit organization that conducts extensive research for people living with GIST cancer.
GIST, a cancer of the GI tract, is classified as a sarcoma, which is a rare cancer that attaches itself to the bones and connective and muscle tissues resulting in excruciating pain and life threatening complications.
So far, research has led to the discovery and implementation of a new treatment option, called Gleevec, the only drug on the market to address the symptoms of people battling GIST cancer. As you may imagine, much more research is needed to discover more treatment options for this incurable disease.
Like others, my bonus-mom utilizes Liferaftgroup.org for its community-focused approach and support for those living with this rare disease. She relies on Liferaft’s emails and research updates to stay abreast of new treatment options available to her. Please support my fundraiser, which allow people worldwide to have more access to and knowledge about GIST cancer and treatments. No amount is too little or too small. Every donation counts.
