BENEFITING: LEAST OF THESE OF BAYTOWN INC
The "least of these" is a broad group of underserved people - the poor, orphaned, widowed, homeless, hungry, hurting, and imprisoned. And while the statistics for poverty, hunger, homelessness, elder & spousal abuse, and incarceration can seem overwhelming at times - we can each find small and meaningful ways to serve those individuals in our community who need a little help. This fundraising campaign is an effort to launch the first year of micro-grants in support of the The Least of These of Baytown, Inc., a Texas Nonprofit Corporation registered as a 501c3 tax exempt organization.
Every month the we identify people in the Greater Baytown area who want to serve the "least of these" (orphans, widows, homeless, hungry, hurting, poor, & prisoners). Every month we award 10 micro-grants in denominations of $100, $300 or $500 to help people accomplish their service goals. Along the way, we offer advice, guidance, and mentorship to people as they increase their efforts of serving these underserved populations in the Baytown-area.
We do this by publicizing a survey every month that asks people to submit their ideas and proposals for the "least of these". An advisory board regularly evaluates the proposals and determines which requests to fund and at what funding level ($100, $300, $500). It is very easy to ask and receive money from us for the first time. When a person receives money from us to help the least of these, we call them a "helper". Helpers are trying to do a good thing - trying to help their community, but they often don't have enough money to accomplish their goals. So we hope our "helpers" come back often and ask for more money!
