Innovative development Education Academy (IDEA) is a non-governmental, non-profit developmental organization registered as a social charitable organization in Chief District Administration office in Kaski district and Social Welfare Council of Nepal. Since it’s establishments IDEA has been involved in various types of education and training programme at the crossroad of national development.

IDEA has an affiliation with Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) Nepal for the implementation of Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery (ANM) training programme and an accrediation with Nepal Nursing Council for the registration of ANM graduates.

The government of Nepal has challenges in the societies that have significant impact in the health system and consequently in the field of nursing specially midwifery profession. The significant role of the nurses/ midwives in order to promote quality health care of the children, adolescence and women for reduction of maternal mortality and morbidity highly needed in the country like Nepal. ANMs are one of the frontline health workers who can contribute their services from community level to district level of health care system. The curriculum of ANM is designed to deal midwifery, community health, health education, reproductive health, safe motherhood, child care, ethics, clients rights and community diagnosis to the root causes of underdevelopment of health in Nepal.

The objectives of IDEA’s ANM programme are:

perform basic health care in prevention, promotion, maintenance restoration and rehabilitation of individuals, family groups and communities;
conduct normal delivery safely, ensuring good health of mother and neonate;
to develop positive attitude in nursing profession which is socially and culturally acceptable
facilitate in alleviating poverty both in rural and urban communities.
What We Need:

“Teach someone to fish and feed them for a lifelong” is our motto. We need financial support to provide inventive education support to provide opportunity to needy rural women in Nepal. We need to raise US 8,500.00 to provide 400 $ each to 20 individual women and girls . . We will also have 20 individuals women / girls who mobilise funds for themselves.

The Impact

To ensure skilled attendance at childbirth and to address the challenge of training, deployment and retention of SBA in rural Nepal, the government has come out with a national policy on Skilled Birth Attendants in 2006. The objective of National Policy on Skilled Birth Attendants, July 2006 is to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity by ensuring the availability, access to and utilization of skilled care at every birth. The SBA program has mobilized a range of resources and inputs such as strengthening hospitals to serve as training sites for SBAs, developing training curricula and implementing training activities. Nepal MDG5 target sets for 60% of deliveries to be attended by SBAs by 2015 for which around 7,000 skilled birth attendants (SBAs) are required. Nepal produces a good number of doctors and nurses, however, there is still shortage of qualified midwives and is far below the optimum human Resource situation to meet the MDG. Majority of ‘skilled’ birth attendants in Nepal are “Trained Health Professionals” rather than SBA proper. Massive and intensive training program is undergoing to produce the required no SBAs, primarily by providing short courses to Assistant Nurse Midwifes and different levels of health workers including doctors.
