BECAUSE HUNGER...DOESN'T TAKE A BREAK ON THE WEEKENDS
A little girl was telling a woman about the best tuna fish sandwich her Dad brings home for her. This woman really likes tuna fish sandwiches so she asks the young girl where her Dad gets the sandwich from because she would like to go there and have one. The girl responds "From the dumpster behind the Hospital but now I get a backpack of food and he no longer goes there.” The heartfelt words of this little girl is why the Blessings in a Backpack program is so vital to our children.
Its goal is simple—send every child that qualifies for a Free or Reduced Lunch home every weekend with six meals to eat. $100 will feed a child for the entire school year. As a communtiy we are "Feeding the Future of America" so any size donation will help.
Children that show up to school healthy and well-nourish learn better. At-risk children are at a disadvantage from the moment they walk into school on Monday morning. The Blessings in a Backpack program addresses the problem of hunger for at-risk children by providing school-age children with food insecurities, a backpack containing six meals for the weekend.
By eliminating the barriers to learning caused by lack of food we are providing these children with the same opportunities to succeed in school as their fellow students. This, will give these children a much better chance to take advantage of educational opportunities, graduate, possibly attend college, succeed in the workforce and be contributing members of their community.
All money raised in Michigan stays in Michigan to feed school-age children in our local communities. 100% volunteer organization-everyone involved with Blessings in a Backpack-Michigan volunteers their time so all money raised feeds hungry children.
