If you were an animal in need, you would want to be at MARL. Here's why:
The Michigan Animal Rescue League (MARL) is a private, nonprofit animal shelter serving Oakland County and beyond since 1953. We care for approximately 150 dogs and cats at any given time at our shelter in Pontiac. It is MARL's mission to provide the highest quality of life to dogs and cats through rescue, medical care, short- and long-term sanctuary, adoption, education and outreach.
The MARL Difference
Animals arrive at MARL in various forms of distress. Some are strays, some are being surrendered by the only family they have ever known and others are left on our doorstep overnight. At MARL we commit to our animals for their lifetime and strive to give them the highest quality of life as they await adoption.
MARL believes that the quality of “the wait” for a forever home can make all the difference in the future of an animal. Our extensive medical and socialization programs allow each animal to retain or in some cases regain their ability to connect with people. We make each animal feel like they are part of the family, so they don't feel alone while they are at the shelter.
Beyond our shelter walls we promote and assist animal welfare efforts throughout our community by actively supporting local outreach and rescue programs working to combat animal cruelty. We also facilitate an outreach program that provides food and low or no cost animal sterilization and vaccinations to low-income households in our area.
