BENEFITING: Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana
At the age of 9, sometimes Cassie feels like she needs to be the “parent” of her brother and sister. Cassie’s parents are divorced – and she lives with her dad, stepmother, sister, brother and stepsister. But, when she steps into the Boys & Girls Club, she feels like she can just be herself. Cassie describes her Club as a place where she can just “feel like me.” The Club is a place of hope and opportunity for thousands of children – many who have life situations that are hard to deal with as a child. At the Club, professional adults work with children making them feel comfortable, but guiding them to be the best they can be. The Club is fun, but focuses on academic success, character and leadership, and healthy lifestyles. At home, Cassie is the big sister – and at the Club she is a kid who is learning and having fun.
