You can help kids begin to hope again!
Loss touches us all. For some of us, loss doesn’t touch our lives until we are adults. We miss our loved one and wish they were with us. We feel the pain of being without our loved one.
However, when a child loses a loved one, it is different. Children are not able to express the feelings they have. Loss is very confusing for them. Often a child will talk about their loved one for a few minutes and then go back to playing. However, the grief is with them and shows up in physical symptoms such as stomach aches, headaches, and trouble sleeping. It can also show up in emotional symptoms such as regressing to an earlier stage of development, misconduct, anxiety and fear.
New Hope Center for Grief Support’s Kids and Teens program provides a place for children to do their grief work in the company of other children who are also grieving. Through play based activities including puppets, stories, journaling, art, games and music, the youth are able to develop coping skills, build friendships, find ways to express their feelings and participate in remembrance activities.
There is more work in the community to be done. In 2016, we want to serve more kids through community outreach, connecting with schools and churches, and expanding our summer day camp for kids and teens. You can make that possible! Your donations make a direct impact on the life of a child. There's no better gift that you give during this holiday season.
New Hope Center for Grief Support is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to providing support, education, and community at no cost to those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. With your help and support, people can find the help they need, and begin on their journey towards hope, healing, and new beginnings.
