Friday, March 15, 2013 marks my 9 year anniversary of being a survivor of Lupus. The type that I have is SLE or Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. While many have lupus, it affects every individual differently, even those with the same type. I have been hospitalized a number of times, battling drops in my blood platelet count. A low blood platelet count can lead to a number of issues including, but not limited to, internal bleeding, fatigue, or death. In December, my doctor informed me that I needed to lose 30 to 50 pounds as soon as possible! Weight contributes a huge deal to your health. In my case, the extra weight could lead to different types of arthritis, knee replacements, and many more issues. Currently, I am 14 pounds from reaching that goal! A BLESSING! Every day is a struggle, but I make it WONDERFUL! This disease affects a number of individuals; however, people are uneducated on this topic. It's time to bring awareness! I decided to start a movement on March 15th, my anniversary. I'm asking everyone to wear purple and post pictures on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter with the hash tag #LupusAwareness #GetInformed. Even if an individual doesn’t use social media, I still want them to wear purple that day.
UPDATE........ JOIN ME FRIDAY, MARCH 15, 2013 AT THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE HOUSE NORTH GROUNDS AT 3:00PM! THE PROGRAM WILL HONOR LUPUS SURVIVORS AND PAY TRIBUTE TO THOSE WHO HAVE PASSED FROM THIS DEBILITATING DISEASE.
It’s time to get involved! I’m asking for every community to join this movement!
For more information, contact me via email. I look forward to hearing from you!
