On May 6th 2006 Freedom Firm Rescued our first minor girl, Karishma.
This is her story:
When Freedom Firm Rescued Karishma she was only 12 years old. She was initially found in a small room being forced to work as a prostitute by her own grandmother.
After Freedom Firm investigators discovered Karishma they brought the information on her whereabouts and condition directly to the police requesting that they perform a raid in an effort to rescue her. The police delayed for 8 days and by the time the raid was conducted Karishma was gone, sold to another brothel.
For the next six months Freedom Firm operatives continued to search for this young girl. Finally a strong lead emerged when Karishma’s brother provided Freedom Firm operatives with information on her whereabouts. She was located in a small town three hours away from her grandmothers brothel. Freedom Firm brought this new information to the police and this time the police responded quickly.
Thankfully Karishma was rescued from a truck stop brothel. Though Karishma’s life as a prostitute had finally come to an end, her journey towards Restoration was just beginning. Like most young girls Karishma was devastated by the emotional, physical, and spiritual abuse she experienced during her time in the brothel.
The path to her healing was slow and marred with pitfalls, set backs, and barriers. Yet despite all the challenges she has faced, Karishma has made tremendous strides in her recovery. Since rescue Karishma has testified against her traffickers at trial.
She has spent the last eight years in and out of Freedom Firm’s after care program, sometimes disappearing for long stretches of time but always returning back to Freedom Firm. A place she knows she is safe. A place she can trust.
Today Karishma, works for Freedom Firm’s micro jewelry enterprise, Ruhamah Designs, and she is one of our most skilled artisans. On June 8th Karishma delivered her first baby.
Karishma represents the first of over 300 girls whose lives have been positively impacted by the dedicated staff at Freedom Firm.
Every $2,000 we raise helps not only to rescue one more young girl from a life of slavery, it gives her access to the care and tools she needs to start on the path to restoration and healing, and it holds those individuals who enslaved her responsible for their crimes.
