"To Travel is To Live" was the motto of famed children's book writer Hans Christian Andersen. For many, this could hold no more truth than for the terminally ill and their families. Cancer claims the lives of more than half a million Americans in the United States each year and is the second leading cause of death. This roughly breaks down to 1,370 people per day or 57 people per hour. Although we do not have the means to give these people the miracle and/or medical attention needed to cure them, we wish to give them a chance to have some final precious and positive memories with their loved ones before they depart this world. We are in the early stages of starting a non-profit charity organization that will give the terminally ill the opportunity to go where they have always wanted to go at no cost to them or their families and with everything prepared for them, simply and effortlessly. Think about if you were terminally ill, where would you want to spend some of your final moments? As the Make-a-Wish Foundation is there for children, we want to be there for adults as travel can lift spirits and bring life to new levels. It can give those that are sick the strength to fight longer and be more hopeful. Our goal is to contribute 90 percent of all funds received to awards with 10 percent reserved for administrative costs. We will provide trip planning, passport support (if needed), travel medical insurance, flights, transfers, tours, and any other associated cost for the awards. Those wishing to receive awards will need to have paperwork signed off by a practicing physician as one worthy of an award and one that is physically able to travel. We greatly need your support to make this happen. If you can give a $1, please do. If you can give a lot more, then please do. If you or someone you know has ever lost someone else due to a terminal illness, then you know just how difficult these obstacles can be. If you want to make a difference, a real difference, in the lives of others, then may we strongly ask that you please contribute to our cause. As a thank you, all initial donors will go on the founders wall of our new website, JourneyforHope.org. The wall will have levels of support from $1-5,000, $5,001-$10,000, $10,001-$25,000, $25,001-$100,000, and $100,000 and higher. Our initial goal is to secure $1 million dollars in preliminary funding. We will also keep you up to date by email and Facebook as to the progress that we are making and the lives of those who we have improved with these awards. Remember that in the end we regret only the chances that we did not take. We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us. Thank you in advance for your support and we look forward to sharing with you the future of our wonderful cause.
