BENEFITING: FOTOKIDS INC
Giving Central American Kids a Reason Not to Migrate
For over 20 years Fotokids has been professionally training kids from poor areas of Guatemala and Honduras in photography, graphic design, web design, video and writing.
Fotokids-We have a program that works- It works because;
*we work long term with kids teaching them vocational skills in graphic design and photography while at the same time giving them scholarships to send them to traditional academic schools.
*We keep it small and start with young kids, 10 to 11 years old that can stay in the Fotokids from elementary school thru University.
*t's an integrated program, we work with the families and the schools,
We know our kids, their families, their problems and we give them a chance to be heard, give them self-confidence, critical thinking and an opportunity to show off their artistic skills.
We started in Guatemala City's garbage dump and now provide free media education for over 170 kids in poor rural and violent urban barrios. Along with special programs for at-risk secondary school age girls, vocational training for teens, and head start for grade school kids. We give traditional educational scholarships to over 150 students. All of our programs are free but the traditional school scholarships cost us from $300-600 a year minimum.
Our graduates have gone on to the university to study law, architecture, journalism, graphic design, business administration and systems engineering. They've gotten good jobs and we have exhibited the children's photographs in 14 countries.
Your money goes to: academic scholarships, vocational training to help young people have an edge in getting a job, and teacher salaries
This year our scholarship sponsorship and operational funding is down and we need help.
