BENEFITING: Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen
EVENT DATE: Dec 31, 2012
Harvest season means bounty. But not for everyone. Too many Americans aren't quite sure where they're getting their next meal. Many of them Veterans and their families. I'm raising $$, food, time, whatever you can give, to help ease that burden on local families this Holiday Season.
I came across Feed Our Vets while watching CBS Sunday Morning. More than 130,000 Veterans are homeless and hungry on any given night in America. One in three homeless people in America is a U.S. Military Veteran. And nearly three million Veterans and their families don’t have enough to eat each month. That is unacceptable. "" That" and
To that end, D.E.S.K. is doing that same work right here in New Haven. They provide free direct food programs to the citizens of the New Haven Community, serving evening meals 7 days a week, take away snacks and brown bag lunches. That's nearly 150,000 meals since the doors opened, and another 50,000 lunches. I have worked with D.E.S.K. for a few years & can tell you they depend on donations of food & time, but more importantly, money. With larger buying power comes greater discounts, and volume means more bang for their much-needed buck.
No matter what your political or religious leanings are, there is no way that allowing our Veterans to languish can be good enough. If you consider this to be the greatest contry on Earth, it can't be good enough to let people that fought for it go without.
Please consider donating here this holiday season so that we may all be Thankful for what we have.
Warmest Seasons Greetings,
Feel free to earmark your donation for one group or another. If you have cans, let me know, I will set up boxes. if you have time to donate I will organize another Volunteer night.
