I have been on the board of this school for many years and I'm so proud of all the boys who are there, working hard every day.
George Jackson Academy is an all boys middle school for talented, bright boys of color from some of New York's lowest-income neighborhoods: the South Bronx, Harlem, Washington Heights, Flatbush, and Jamaica Queens. Many of our boys come to GJA from schools where they have not been challenged to reach their highest potential. We seek to create an environment where they can develop into successful, talented young men who will enter the world as our future thinkers, scholars, activists and change agents.
This year I want to reach out to you, my friends and patients, to help me create a scholarship program for one of the boys. Maybe we can even get to 2 of the boys.
It costs $15,000 for a student to attend George Jackson Academy for a year.
100% of the students who attend this fine institution are there on scholarships.
Jared Butler is a fine young man who is eager to stay at school and be an engineer one day. Let's work together to sponsor his tuition for a year. Please watch the video to your left and you will get to meet Jared.
Please give $25. You can give more if you want. But $25 is something we can all manage and I'm hoping you will join my team here and reach out to your friends too and ask them to give $25.
If we work together on this it will feel great, we will have built a sense of community by helping a young person and it won't cost us that much.
I will put up information in the waiting room of the office about our student and will keep this page updated as well.
George Jackson is liberating some of our young men who are bright and talented and giving them a future.
I feel very blessed to have met many of the students at the school and I welcome any of you to go down and take a visit.

You are my community and I'm so excited we are doing this together.
