My name is Jesse Ruben. I live in Brooklyn. I am a singer/songwriter. And I have Lyme Disease.
I used to run the NYC Marathon every year for charity. It was a huge part of my life that I was very proud of. A couple of months after running in November of 2012, I started not feeling well. Then it got worse. And worse. And then much worse. I stopped traveling, writing music, or doing anything but going to doctors and taking medicine. I was worried I would never recover. I thought I was going to die. Some days, I wanted to.
Luckily, with the help of some incredible doctors, and the support of many wonderful people, I have gotten my life back. The last obstacle for me in making a complete recovery is to once again run the marathon in New York. This time, I am doing it to raise money for Global Lyme Alliance, the largest non-profit in the world dedicated to research and quality of life for people with Lyme Disease. I don't want what happened to me to ever happen to anyone else. That blurry photo of me on this page was taken right at the 26 mile marker of my first marathon, back in 2010. It is one of the most amazing and powerful moments of my life. I can't wait to do it all over again.
Any amount you can give would be greatly appreciated. It means more to me than you can possibly imagine.
I love you, I love you, I love you.
