Rwanda and Colombia
July 20, 2016
As you may already know, I'm an avid volunteer. Perhaps my most significant commitment is with a great non-profit organization called Global Youth Connect (GYC), a Human Rights/Education non-profit.
GYC's mission is to advance human rights awareness and education through cross-cultural programs for emerging leaders. They do this by hosting 2 week delegations/summits in post-genocide countries year round. Young leaders (14-35) from varying backgrounds come together and develop skills critical to grassroots organizing, conflict transformation, human rights activism and leadership, and technical support for on-going organizing efforts. The delegates participate in a three-tiered approach: 1. experiential development training through an interactive cross-cultural human rights education workshop 2. site visits with key stakeholders in local human rights efforts, including with members of government, international and local NGOs, and members of the community 3. on-the-ground experience volunteering with local human rights organizations and doing human rights work. Some of the countries in which GYC hosts delegations are Bosnia, Rwanda, Colombia and South Africa.
This fundraiser is aiming to raise enough money to provide scholarships for deserving young people who come from modest backgrounds that could otherwise not afford to attend a delegation. The organization does its best to offer scholarships, but a small operating budget limits our ability to do so.
Please help me to make this transformational program a reality for our deserving young leaders!! To learn more, please go to: http://www.globalyouthconnect.org/
Don't forget to shout out the org we belong to!!! (TFA, MLT, SLB, M*!!)
If you are affiliated with a University, business or other organization that would be interested in making a larger contribution or are open to exploring a wider partnership with GYC for future scholarships, please get in touch with me!
