BENEFITING: Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines
EVENT DATE: May 25, 2014
My name is Samantha L Thomas. I graduated from Drake University in 2010 with a degree of international relations. After graduation, I traveled to South Korea to begin developing arts programs for privileged children. The work was rewarding but I felt I wasn't helping enough children recognize their potential through art. In 2012 I loaded up a suitcase full of donated art supplies and headed to Nepal to voluntarily teach art for 9 days. During this trip 60 participants, both young and old, were able to share their stories through artistic programming. 9 days was simply not enough; I knew there were more stories to be told and a great many problems to be solved, so I began developing a plan to help others through artistic and educational programming.
That plan became Global Arts Therapy. The plan is to have participants in Iowa and Nepal create, connect with each other and learn about entrepreneurship through art. We started art classes in Des Moines, Iowa, working with underprivileged youth. We've already served over 100 youth in Iowa and are continuing to expand to reach more.
On April 25th 2014, I will head to Nepal with 2 volunteers for 9 weeks to begin creating sustainable arts programming and studios in rural villages. These studios and programs will help individuals receive an education as well as encourage entrepreneurship and creative projects.
We need to raise 3,000 dollars to help with programming and projects in Iowa and Nepal. All funds will go directly to helping us build sustainable art studios and supplies to help us reach more individuals and their communities!
By donating to the Global Arts Campaign you will be directly helping underprivileged individuals in Iowa as well as Nepal! For each donation you will receive a thank you note from Nepal as well as other unique perks, from your name on a handmade quilt block to your own flower pot! We at Global Arts Therapy want you to become part of our amazing adventure that will serve thousands of individuals per year! Make your mark and donate to our incredible campaign!
These funds will make a significant impact for us and our participants! If we do not make our 3,000 dollar goal, whatever we do raise will still be used to assist others in developing nations with artistic and educational programming. Every dollar counts!
Our programs will help communities build sustainable access to clean water by making ceramic filtration systems and ceramic heaters. Our programs will also offer soap making lessons so individuals can utilize organic plant matter to create a valuable tool to help them maintain their health. Showing participants they can create practical job creation.
Global Arts Therapy developed partnerships with local organizations to increase our impact. We work with Iowa Homeless Youth Centers, the Young Women's Resource Center and Gateway Dance in Iowa, and Child Workers In Nepal, Sonrisa Orphanage and Happy Home Orphanage in Nepal.
Your contribution will assist us in many ways! By eradicating poverty, empowering youth, helping education communities and assisting in sustainable development projects! We are focused on serving individuals around the world to improve our global economy and help those in need find ways to succeed!
