BENEFITING: BORGEN PROJECT
I am volunteering for this organization this summer. The raised funds will help us in activities of political advocacy. Currently, only 0.2% of the US foreign aid budget contributes to international development aid. I bet you thought we helped other countries a lot more! We believe that the US, as a leading country, can do more to end global poverty. Working on the political level has the potential to create large scale, sustainable improvements for countries facing severe levels of poverty. The Borgen Project meets with leaders of congress to gain support for legislation that will reduce poverty (such as Global Food Aid Reform) and educates citizens on methods of poverty reduction and how to advocate for this cause. Personally, this summer I am writing articles for The Borgen Project blog and magazine in order to increase awareness on how to reduce global poverty.
